Raho Mohamud Janaqow is the State Minister for Finance of the Federal Republic of Somalia since August 2022. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Special Gender Advisor for the office of the Prime Minister. During this period, she was responsible for all programmes relating to gender issues. She worked closely with Goodwill Ambassadors to ensure the 30% quota in the parliamentary elections are upheld.

In 2016, Raho joined the Federal Indirect Electoral Implementation Team (FIEIT). As part of the committee, she managed financial issues relating to the selection of MPs and Senators at the federal level. She was not only responsible for the quality control of the elections but also responsible for all financial transactions of the 2016 election. She worked closely with UNDP and other international donors.

Between 1996 and 2015, she served as the director of SAACID, Somalia’s oldest women’s NGO. During this period she helped establish 75 food kitchens that fed tens-of-thousands daily and built the largest Somali NGO in the country, peaking with a cash and in-kind turnover of millions of dollars, from international donors. She implemented not only health, education, and emergency services, but successfully undertook 3 Demobilisation, Disarmament and Reintegration (DDR) programmes for militia; the construction of markets, the rehabilitation of district administration offices, as well as surveys and research. She also helped establish health services, and schools, canal rehabilitations for agriculture and the construction or refurbishment of water wells.

From 1981 to 1996, Raho held positions in SAACID, Ministry of Planning and Ministry of Education.

Raho Mohamud Janaqow holds a Master of Science in Administration and International Development from Andrews University.
